If I had to pick one tablet to watch video on for the rest of my life, I would pick the Samsung Galaxy Tab Good The Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 is an elegantly designed tablet that comes with a capable stylus. It has a stunning AMOLED screen, fingerprint sensor for extra security and satisfyingly loud quad speakers. It's also the first HDR-ready tablet. The Bad Despite the hype, HDR content is not available on the tablet yet. Large games take time to load. The keyboard add-on is an expensive extra. The Bottom Line Samsung packs buzz-worthy features like S Pen and HDR support into its new premium Galaxy Tab S3, but without a keyboard packed in, it's still more about content consumption than creation. It's a stylish, all-glass tablet with an impressively crisp and vibrant screen and four speakers, making it an excellent portable movie theater. It's also the first HDR-ready tablet, although there are a few asterisks to that bullet point. HDR stands for high dynamic range, which means a spectacular, noticeable difference in contrast and color range in comparison to regular HD. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 is a sexy HDR tablet with stylus See all photos That type of high-quality video content isn't even close to becoming as commonplace as HD content is today, yet Samsung is still flexing this future-forward feature as an advantage over high-end tablets such as the Apple iPad Pro the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 and the Google Pixel C. Included in the $600 base price is the revamped Samsung S-Pen stylus, a real treat for those who still relish good old-fashioned note-taking. Though it costs the same amount as the Apple iPad Pro and Google Pixel C, it's not at the front of the pack in performance. But if a sharp screen, great audio and an excellent stylus is on your must-have features list, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 is a top choice for indulging in binge-watching style, wherever you go. HD content looks razor sharp, colorful and bright. The excellent picture quality is complemented by four speakers, featuring AKG by Harman Kardon's expert tuning. With one speaker at each corner, they sound satisfyingly loud and clear, though it's best to avoid cranking it to max volume as the audio tends to sound tinny when pushed to its limit. According to Samsung, the tablet features positional audio, which rotates what comes through the four speakers as you turn the tablet. It's supposed to push the dialogue and vocals to the top two speakers, no matter whether you're holding it in portrait or landscape mode. This means it's capable of playing HDR content, which is like HD content but on steroids. At the time of review, there's no Samsung native HDR content or easily accessible way to view HDR content on tablets . According to Netflix, it doesn't have any plans to support HDR on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3. Amazon and FandangoNow both plan on supporting the feature, simply stating that HDR content will be available "soon." When reached for comment, VUDU did not clarify whether or not it would make its UHD content available for the tablet. No HDR content means settling for HD - for now. But even without a catalog of HDR content, you're still getting one of the best visual experiences on any screen, because this is an AMOLED display, which is a close cousin of the OLED displays found in the very best TVs , and starting to turn up in some phones and laptops . The revamped S Pen, previously exclusive to Samsung's Note series, has one button and is short and oblong in shape to prevent it from rolling off a desk. When the screen's unlocked, pressing the S Pen's button and tapping the screen launches a customizable carousel that you can load with your favorite apps. Notes can also be easily jotted down, even when the tablet is locked. When the screen is in sleep mode, tapping it with the stylus while pressing the S Pen's button as you would to launch the carousel opens a simplified black and white note-taking screen, almost like a digital chalkboard. The simple software integration met all of my needs. Josh Miller/CNET Honestly, I wasn't expecting to like the S Pen as much as I did. I've never been a big stylus fan but found myself actively enjoying the feeling of writing with the S Pen. The smooth movement of the rubber tip on the glass felt oddly therapeutic for coloring apps. Writing with it flowed like ink on paper. Apple 's iPad Pro Pencil and the stylus included with Microsoft's Surface products are also excellent in their own ways, but offer different features and have a different feel. There's a bit of a learning curve when it comes to applying the right amount of pressure, but otherwise it's easy to get the hang of. Best of all, the basic software integration satisfied all of my note-taking needs. While I was excited to try the Galaxy S3 for its high-end screen, it's the stylus that kept me coming back for more. The digital notepad I never knew I wanted. Josh Miller/CNETKeyboard? You can keep it One of the most disappointing things about the Galaxy Tab S3 is its unremarkable Pogo keyboard case. It's similar to the iPad Pro connecting magnetically to its edge without Bluetooth . It feels cramped to type on, doesn't automatically shut off the screen when closed and can be unresponsive despite being connected properly. Plus the keys aren't backlit and it only offers one viewing angle, so it can't be adjusted to your liking if, for example, you're using it on your lap. Its only redeeming quality is that it offers a place to store the S-Pen stylus. I suggest a hard pass on the Galaxy Tab S3's keyboard. Josh Miller/CNET To add insult to injury, the keyboard caused performance issues. After disconnecting the tablet from it, the on-screen keyboard would occasionally fail to appear. I was still able to tap the area where the on-screen keyboard would be and letters would appear in text fields, but the on-screen keyboard would remain invisible. I had to restart the tablet to get it back to normal. Another irritating problem was how disconnecting the tablet from the keyboard would cause it to go to sleep. I often casually transition between tablet and laptop mode and vice versa in one sitting. When switching from laptop mode to tablet, I would have to annoyingly re-enter my pin or scan my fingerprint just to continue what I was doing. It magnetically connects and doesn't require Bluetooth. Josh Miller/CNET The keyboard is sold separately and it's not a deal breaker, unless you really want a keyboard with your tablet. In that case, keep your options open. But to be a "laptop replacement" a tablet really does need a keyboard. We may fare better with the upcoming Galaxy Book, a Windows-based sister product that comes with its own, different, keyboard cover. At least it gives you a place to store the stylus. Larger, more complex games such as 3 Near Orbit and Hearthstone were a bit slow to launch, but graphics looked spectacular and smooth during gameplay. In comparison to the Google Pixel C and Apple iPad Pro it falls behind the pack in 3DMark benchmarks. After one test, looping a local 720p file in airplane mode, the tablet lasted hours. Anecdotally, while streaming video it lasted about 7-8 hours. Check back when we're done testing for the final results. My time with the tablet was marred by some unexpected bugginess. A few games initially crashed upon launch Suicide Squad Special Ops, Hearthstone and Asphalt 8 and I had to uninstall and reinstall 3DMark because it kept crashing when attempting to run the Ice Storm Unlimited benchmark test. Due to its performance, it's better for content consumption, not creation. Tack on the previously mentioned keyboard issues and the Samsung feels too expensive for what you're getting. For the same price, the iPad Pro and Pixel C may not include a stellar stylus, but at least their performance lives up to the expectations of a high-end tablet. And, the new inch iPad a successor to the iPad Air 2 , captures a lot of the high-end feel for hundreds less, although the display and camera aren't as good, and there's no stylus support. Come for the stunning HDR screen, stay for the satisfying stylus. With its S-Pen stylus in tow, it can also work as a high-end digital notepad. The much-touted HDR video support is little more than a marketing bullet point for now, but holds future promise. For the same price, you may choose to invest in a different tablet with more productivity potential. The iPad Pro and Pixel C both offer better keyboard accessories and snappier gaming performance. Not everyone wants or needs a tablet for typing or gaming, though. If you want a great tablet primarily for watching video, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 is my new favorite.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 32GB, the world's most powerful Android slate, is a perfect example of the "pro tablet" dilemma. Much like Apple's iPad Pro, this is a tablet that's priced like a laptop, but its mobile operating system holds it back when it comes to productivity. Its saving grace is the S Pen, making the Tab S3 brilliant for sketching and note-taking—but that may not be worth $ We've been down this road before. Android- and iOS-powered tablets make terrific media consumption gadgets, and their respective styli let them dip into productivity. Apps that look and feel like Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Office, and other high-end creator titles appear on the Apple and Google Play app stores. But they lack the full functionality you get from Windows. That's fine when you're paying less than you would for a similar Windows tablet, but once you get into the $600-$800 range, you don't want to have to make compromises. Physical Design The Galaxy Tab S3 is a big, silvery slab with a glass back. At by by inches HWD and ounces, it's slightly thinner and lighter than the iPad Pro by by inches, ounces. Similar Products That glass back makes me nervous. It's pretty enough, but I don't see the point, other than making the tablet more breakable. After all, the Galaxy Tab S2 has a nice matte back, and the iPad line does just fine with metal. The glass here is Gorilla Glass 4, and it's not slippery, which is well and good, but it really feels like a potential point of failure. The front and rear cameras are both positioned to be used in portrait mode. On the bottom, there's a USB-C charging and syncing port that supports Qualcomm Quickcharge and a headphone jack. The 2,048-by-1,536, screen appears identical to the one on the Galaxy Tab S2. It has the perfect blacks and brilliant colors that only AMOLED can produce, and makes iPads feel a little washed out. Samsung says it supports HDR, but right now the only examples of HDR you can find are a few streaming videos on Amazon; there just isn't enough content for this to be a meaningful feature yet. Performance The Tab S3 runs Android Nougat on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor with 4GB of RAM. That's far more powerful, processor-wise, than the chip in the Galaxy Tab S2 a Samsung Exynos, and you can see the difference primarily in gaming frame rates On the GFXBench Manhattan test, the new tablet gets 33 fps where the old one got 7. Better graphics and processor performance also contribute to the butter-smooth feeling of using the S Pen in drawing and note-taking applications. Faster processor performance isn't really perceivable in other uses, such as the browser or office apps. This is, obviously, not stock Android—is it ever?—but Samsung has really dialed back the bloatware. The redundant web browser and music player are gone, in favor of Google's options. Samsung's proprietary dual-window multitasking still has a few useful features added in Quick Connect lets you fling content to TVs and set-top boxes that support it, and you can download a free Kids Mode for parental controls. But as very few people have a TabPro S, it ends up being much less useful than Apple's Continuity, as it's unlikely to work on your desktop. The Tab S3 we tested is a Wi-Fi-only model, although carriers will sell an LTE version in the future. Wi-Fi performance was absolutely spectacular in testing, especially on the 5GHz band, where I got faster uplink than on the Galaxy Tab S2. The tablet supports dual-band The tablet only comes in one memory size, 32GB, of which is free. You can add a microSD card to a slot on the side to provide up to 256GB more storage, but you can't use Google's Adoptable Storage to merge that with internal storage. Battery life is excellent on the 6,000mAh cell We got 9 hours, 9 minutes on our video streaming test, which outpaced the five and a half hours we saw with the iPad Pro. And that was at full screen brightness, which is very, very bright; you're more likely to use the tablet at half brightness, where it would surely outlast its promised 12 hours. S Pen and Keyboard You're here for the S Pen. While you can get a great media consumption tablet for $200 less than the Tab S3, Samsung's Wacom-powered plastic pen sets this slate apart from both competitors and its predecessor. The included S Pen is a flattened oval with a tip and an action button on the side. Because it's flattened, it doesn't roll away. Serious pen users, though, should spring for the Staedtler S Pencil, which looks and feels just like a classic European pencil. Unfortunately, we don't have a date or price for that accessory yet. I found this to be the most accurate iteration of the S Pen ever In OneNote, Evernote, and Autodesk Sketchbook, it didn't drop any lines or dots tapped on the screen. It's definitely pressure-sensitive, with pressure showing up in a wide range of art apps, but it isn't tilt-sensitive. For taking notes, it's superior to the Apple Pencil $ at AmazonOpens in a new window because it's lighter and less fatiguing. It's also cheaper to replace, at $79 vs. $99, and has no battery, so it doesn't need to be charged. Irritatingly, there's nowhere to stash the S Pen unless you get the $129 keyboard case pictured here, which has a loop on the side that the pen tucks into. The loop does not fit the S Pencil, which slides out of it. For the record, Apple also doesn't offer a place to put your Apple Pencil, but Samsung didn't need to repeat that mistake. The keyboard case connects via magnet and has clicky keys. It's a four-row keyboard with dedicated number and arrow keys, which is great, but the keys are just a bit too small at just about a half-inch wide each, as compared with around five-eighths of an inch on a full laptop or desktop keyboard for long typing sessions. Audio and Video Samsung, like Apple, went for quad speakers here. The speakers can tell which rotation you're in; the top ones play "near field" sound and the bottom ones "far field," to give you a sense of space. They're 6db louder than the Galaxy Tab S2's speakers, but I still found them to be noticeably tinny rather than rich. Also, if you're holding the tablet in landscape mode, you're probably blocking two of the speakers with your hands, a problem that most tablets including Apple's have. The Tab S3 has a 13-megapixel main camera and a 5-megapixel front camera. The main camera records 1080p and 4K video in any lighting conditions. The front camera also does well with 1080p and 4K video, so video chatting is not a problem. Still pictures are another story We weren't impressed with either camera. Photos taken with the main camera often looked like they had a haze or veil over them, prompting us to wipe the lens, which didn't help. The front-facing camera showed heavy artifacting when we looked at photos pixel for pixel. Comparisons and Conclusions No other Android tablet has the Galaxy Tab S3's specs. But no other Android tablet except for the occasional Sony slate has the Galaxy Tab S3's price. At $ or $ with the keyboard, the Tab S3 competes with not only the iPad Pro, but with Windows detachables like the Lenovo Miix 510 and the Acer Switch Alpha 12, and that's where it runs into trouble. The Tab S3 makes a great media consumption, sketching, and note-taking device. For pure media consumption, though, you might as well go for the Asus Zenpad 3S 10 or the new iPad and save yourself $200 or more. For true productivity, meanwhile, Android still feels weak and crippled compared with the full Windows versions of apps like Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Office, and even web browsers that include Flash and Java. The iPad Pro faces the same dilemma. So, I'll repeat You're here for the S Pen or even better, the S Pencil. The Galaxy Tab S3 is ready to capture your ideas, bubbling over in script or image. For media consumption, go with a less expensive pick. For true productivity, get Windows. Pros Responsive S Pen. Gorgeous AMOLED screen. Very good battery life. Excellent Wi-Fi performance. We purchased the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 so our expert reviewer could thoroughly test and assess it. Keep reading for our full product review. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 isn’t the latest and greatest, but you wouldn’t know it just from looking at it. The slate comes with a high-resolution screen, an all-day battery, and an S Pen stylus that makes digitally writing on the display simple and fun. Although it might not be as powerful as the new iPad Pro or the Galaxy Tab S4, for many users who want a reliable multimedia experience and don’t necessarily need all the bells and whistles, the Tab S3 gets the job done. We recently tested the Galaxy Tab S3, using it for multimedia, writing, and productivity. And as expected, the tablet delivered the level of sophistication and quality we’ve come to expect from Samsung slates. Design Sleek and attractive The Galaxy Tab S3 we tested has a black finish, though silver is also available. The slate measures x x inches and weighs ounces. The black version has a sleek look, but the back is glossy, so you’ll find yourself wiping off fingerprints often unless you use a case. Fortunately, the back is flat so it won’t go sliding off your desk despite the slick finish. On the front, Samsung has the same black, glossy finish with a Samsung logo at the top. On the bottom bezel, you’ll find a physical home button that you can use to navigate. There are also two capacitive buttons on both sides of the home button. While we found the home button to be reliable and well-built, the capacitive buttons can be a little less responsive. “The display delivered outstanding visuals with perfect brightness and color reproduction.” Along the left side of the tablet, you’ll find buttons to control volume and lock the screen. There’s also a set of magnetic connectors that allows you to connect the Galaxy Tab S3 to a separate physical keyboard to use it more as a laptop. On the bottom, you’ll find two speaker grilles, a USB-C port, and a headphone jack. Performance Older doesn’t mean slower The Galaxy Tab S3 has a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor and 4GB of RAM. This was strong hardware when the tablet released last year, but it’s on the older side now. That said, the Tab S3 still did a solid job of handling most tasks. When we were flipping around to different apps and surfing the Web, the tablet did a great job of handling multitasking without any sign of slowdown or poor performance. If you plan to use the slate for a lot of graphics-intensive apps, like 3D drawing programs and games then you might notice some stutters. The average user planning to watch some videos and do some browsing shouldn’t have any difficulty. The Galaxy Tab S3 ships with an S Pen stylus that you can use to make quick notes or draw with the built-in Samsung apps. You can also use it to magnify a part of the screen and create a palette of colors for your artwork. The best part is the stylus felt like a real writing instrument. Drawing was effortless and at no point did we suffer from any lag when writing on the screen. Lifewire / Yongfeng Wu Display Rich and colorful The Galaxy Tab S3’s display is inches and uses Super-AMOLED technology. It has a quad-HD resolution of 2048 x 1536. All of that translates to the Galaxy Tab S3’s display being downright impressive with the resolution matching or surpassing other high-end tablets. Whether watching videos or surfing the Web, the display delivered outstanding visuals with perfect brightness and color reproduction. It looked great in both high- and low-light conditions. The Tab S3 also comes with HDR10 support, a technology that allows the screen to work with high dynamic range HDR content. To put it simply, HDR expands the brightness spectrum of a picture and creates richer colors in every scene really making them pop. We saw a big difference in color and contrast between HDR and non-HDR content. Audio Outstanding speakers The Galaxy Tab S3 has quad stereo speakers that have been tuned by its own in-house audio experts at AKG. Better yet, the speakers are also auto-adjusting, so they can deliver pitch-perfect tunes in any environment. In our testing, the Galaxy Tab S3’s speakers sounded downright outstanding. There’s no tinniness like you’d find in other tablets and real depth to both the bass and treble. We were really impressed by the tablet’s sound quality. Battery An all-day runtime Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S3 boasts a 6,000mAh internal battery. Samsung promises eight hours of Internet use time, 102 hours of continuous music playback, and up to 12 hours of video playback. During our testing the battery life was in line with what Samsung said. We used the tablet like regular users might, picking it up throughout the day to check email, go on the Internet, type documents, and have video calls. The slate was able to last throughout the workday — about hours — before it needed to be recharged. “The tablet did a great job of handling multitasking without any sign of slowdown or poor performance.” Camera Passable photos The Galaxy Tab S3 comes with a 5-megapixel front-facing camera and a 13-megapixel sensor with autofocus and flash. The front-facing sensor does an outstanding job of making you look good on video calls and its autofocus is both fast and accurate. Selfies, on the other hand, were a little bit disappointing. Facial details were soft and contrast was a problem. The rear-facing camera offered only passable results compared with the average smartphone. Whether we took pictures of landscapes or attempted to snap minute details in flowers, the pictures looked grainy and detail was lost. Even color reproduction was off, causing bright reds and yellows to look somewhat dull in comparison. Software Samsung-flavored Android You’ll find Android Nougat in this slate, which is pretty dated considering two other Android versions that have released since Nougat. If you can get past that, you’ll find Samsung’s own Experience software skin over Android. Experience is Samsung-only software the company has developed to create a unique experience in its smartphones and tablets. It’s designed to work atop Android, so Samsung can take full advantage of Google’s software while offering a customized user interface. “The best part is the stylus felt like a real writing instrument.” Samsung Experience works reasonably well as a tablet skin. It has a simple design that makes it easy to find content in folders and pages of apps and since Samsung updates it each year, it tends to get better with age. Best of all, Samsung has designed it to complement the Google experience instead of taking away from it, so if you’re someone who relies on Google apps like Gmail, Chrome, and YouTube, you’ll find them all easily accessible. Até dá para prendê-la na lateral ou na traseira por meio dos ímãs que ficam dentro do aparelho, mas isso não segura a S Pen muito bem. O resultado é que ela vai acabar se soltando, o que é receita certa para você a perder ou ágil e com benefíciosA interface do Galaxy Tab S3 é bem parecida com a que vemos nos celulares mais recentes da Samsung, como o S8, o Note8 e o J5 Pro. Ela é baseada no Android Nougat e está bem melhor que a versões antigas da TouchWiz. O tablet não vem com uma quantidade absurda de aplicativos instalados, e o sistema funciona com bastante agilidade, sem sinais de travamentos ou engasgos. O visual também está clean, o que é outro ponto a a S Pen, o software oferece mais algumas opções. Basta aproximar a ponta da caneta da tela para fazer aparecer o botão do menu de atalhos, que você pode configurar para dar acesso às funções da stylus ou abrir seus apps favoritos. O sensor traseiro de 13 MP faz imagens até que boas em ambientes bem iluminados, mas a qualidade cai bastante no escuro e à meia-luz. Moderando a utilização para cerca de 1 hora por dia, dá até para chegar a 4 dias, mas sem muita folga. E na hora da recarga, o Tab S3 leva 2 horas e meia para ir de zero a 100%.ExtrasUm ponto que também merece destaque aqui é o áudio. O Galaxy Tab S3 vem com um sistema com quatro alto-falantes da AKG posicionados um em cada canto do tablet, o que garante ótima qualidade de som mesmo nos volumes mais fortes – e olha que dá para deixar bem forte, viu?! Além disso, o dispositivo faz tudo isso com um bom balanço entre graves e agudos, então a experiência em geral fica bem caixa do aparelho também inclui fones de ouvido intrauriculares com boa qualidade sonora, mas que não são do mesmo nível dos do S8 ou do Note8. At a GlanceExpert's Rating Our VerdictThere’s no doubt the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 is the best Android tablet to be launched in years. If you’re looking for a high-end device to rival the iPad Pro running Google’s software then this is it. However, it’s not without downsides. The price will be too high for many and doesn’t include the Keyboard Cover, the software isn’t the best for a tablet and that glass back isn’t the best choice for multiple reasons. The tablet market may have petered out somewhat but Samsung hasn’t give up on it, even if it seems the likes of Sony, HTC and Google have. This latest effort is an iPad Pro rival running Android Nougat with included S Pen. Here’s our Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 review. While we waited for the Galaxy S8 launch, Samsung has some new tablets to keep us entertained. We finally have the Tab S3 alongside two new Galaxy Books running Windows 10 – these seem to be a follow up to the Galaxy TabPro S but with a different naming system. Galaxy Tab S3 Price and where to buy The Galaxy Tab S3 is now available in the UK following its 31 March release date. If you were hoping for a price of around £399 then we have bad news. The Galaxy Tab S3 is even more expensive than the the iPad Pro at £599. You can buy it from Samsung, John Lewis. In the US it’s the same amount but in dollars, $599. Currys now has a lower price of £529. That’s a heft price for a tablet, although it’s worth pointing out that Samsung includes the new S Pen stylus in the box. If you want the 4G LTE model it will set you back £669. While that helps ease the pain of the price, not all potential buys will want the stylus so it’s a shame not to have an option to buy the tablet alone or bundled with the keyboard as an alternative. Galaxy Tab S3 Design and build The Korean tech giant has become a master of design and build with its Galaxy products and others, forming a distinct style emerging since the Galaxy S6. This design language has now made its way across a number of products and the Galaxy Tab S3 is no exception. For starters it’s astonishingly thin at just 6mm. Although this is actually a tiny bit thicker than the Tab S2 and it’s also heavier at 429g it’s still impressive better than the iPad Pro on both counts still and can be, we think, attributed to some of the innovations found in the device. It feels more premium than its predecessor but it does look a little odd with the USB port off-centre. This is made slightly better by the headphone port being the other side of the home button. Although it feels premium because of the sleek combination of glass and metal. The back being glass makes the Tab S3 a slippery customer so you can’t put it down on something that isn’t flat without fear of it sliding off. You’ll probably keep it in a cover most of the time, though, as the tablet has Pogo metal contacts below to easily connect to the keyboard case. You can get the official Book Cover for £32 from Amazon while the Keyboard Cover is available for £119. It’s not waterproof like the Galaxy S7 which is a shame so you’ll have to look to Sony for that on a tablet not that the firm has anything new so far this year on that front. As you’d expect the Galaxy Tab S3 has USB-C and also four speakers much like the iPad Pro. The tablet has a home button once again, as per the launch event invitation hint, and this contains a fingerprint scanner. The usual navigation buttons sit either side. It comes in two colours – black and silver – and both are attractive. However, the silver option hides fingerprints slightly better than the black, just like with a car. Galaxy Tab S3 Specs and features New tablets, especially high-end devices, are a rare thing these days. Apple is one of the only companies regularly releasing new models. However, the iPad Pro has some new competition from the specced up Tab S3. Screen Moving on from a similar design, the Galaxy Tab S3 cements itself as an iPad Pro rival with its screen that has a 43 aspect ratio. It’s still got a 2048×1536 resolution and Super AMOLED display technology but now supports high dynamic range HDR. We’re really impressed with the superbly detailed screen which has bags of colour and brightness. The HDR support means better colours and contrast, in theory, but it’s worth pointing out that only selected titles on Amazon Prime Video and Netflix offer this and at the time of writing, the respective mobile apps don’t support HDR. While the screen is impressive in specs, it’s let down a little because the tablet is a little too reflective to be great in all also worth noting that there’s no equivalent to the iPad Pro’s True Tone display which alters colour temperature for a more comfortable experience. All you can do is optionally switch on the blue light filter. Processor and performance Core specs start off with the decent with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor. Even though we’d like to see the newer 835 model, the quad-core chip dual Kryo and dual GHz Kryo is still up to the job. You can see the benchmark results below, compared to the iPad Pro. Although the numbers aren’t as impressive as Apple’s rival, the performance of the Galaxy Tab S3 is still impressively smooth. It’s perfectly capable of running intensive apps and offer the ability to use two side-by-side with Multi-Window. Storage and connectivity When it comes to memory and storage, the Tab S3 has a combination of 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. You can always add up to 256GB more if needed via the Micro-SD card slot. It’s also got features likes Bluetooth GPS, 11ac dual-band Wi-Fi with 2×2 MIMO and optional LTE Cat 6. There’s no features such as NFC or an infrared sensor here. What there is, once again, is a fingerprint scanner which sits traditionally on the front with capacitive buttons either side for navigation. The sensor is fast and reliable as you would hope and can be used to to unlock the device, verify your Samsung account instead of a password and sign into websites. Cameras Not that cameras are especially important on tablets but the Galaxy Tab S3 comes with a 13Mp rear camera and a 5Mp front camera. Although the rear camera has an LED flash and an f/ aperture, the results from it are nothing special. You could, if you’re happy to shoot with a large tablet, post reasonable quality content on social media but you wouldn’t want to use it for anything more serious. The front camera is about average and will serve as way to video call and the like. However, the placement means holding the tablet naturally means you’re not quite framed right in the picture. Battery life Inside is a 6000mAh battery that’s about twice the size of a typical smartphone. However, that’s a fair chunk smaller than the 9240mAh found on the Google Pixel C. That said, we’re pretty impressed with the battery life on offer here. The Galaxy Tab S3 will almost give you the advertised 12 hours of video playback and holds the charge very well on standby. As mentioned, the tablet charges via the USB-C port and although there’s no wireless charging, the supplied fast charger will get you to 100 percent in around two and a half hours which is pretty good. S Pen Another key feature is the inclusion of a new S Pen. The refined stylus has a smaller tip and improved pressure sensitivity – four times that of the Apple Pencil. This reviewer is no artist but it seems decent, although we did accidentally push the button on the side a few times. The pre-installed app is a sort of social networking app for artists and you can create various things in Notes but there are better apps out there if you look. You also get the usual Air Command menu for doing things like creating note, smart select, screen write, translate, magnify and more. The most annoying thing, like the iPad Pro, is that there’s nowhere to keep the S Pen. It doesn’t attach to, or slide into the tablet – hence why it’s not called a Note’ device. Galaxy Tab S3 Software While the Galaxy Book tablets run on Windows 10, the Galaxy Tab S3 comes with Android Nougat. That’s good but Android still doesn’t translate to tablets as well as iOS. Generally, apps on the platform aren’t optimised for larger screens so can look a bit rubbish on the display here. There’s more subtle things like icons not looking their best, too. Everything is pretty smooth and simple with pre-installed apps from, as usual, Google, Microsoft and Samsung itself. These include Samsung Flow which allows you to wirelessly tether compatible devices to transfer documents and sync messages. It’s easy to do what you want with the software in terms of apps or even a different launcher if you don’t want Briefing next to the homescreen, for example, but you can’t change everything. For example, Multi Window is a handy feature but it doesn’t always run nicely, requiring you to tap on one to bring it to life. É o que vamos te mostrar neste de S7 esticadoSe você olhar para o Galaxy Tab S3 e o S7, vai notar algumas semelhanças bem grandes. Isso está longe de ser ruim, já que o conjunto de metal e vidro tem um poder especial de deixar smartphones e tablets, extremamente elegantes. O problema fica na capacidade do vidro de amar marcas de dedos. Sério, o Tab S3 ama a oleosidade dos seus dedos da mesma forma como o smartphone, só que o corpo dele é bem maior e você nota estas marcas com mais para o visual e esquecendo, ou tentando esquecer das marcas de dedo, o Tab S3 é premium de praticamente qualquer ângulo. Seja pelo cuidado de tornar o metal fosco nas bordas, ou pelo toque liso vidro. Ele é premium e deixa bem claro isso. Indo até mesmo para a cor da S Pen, que acompanha o pacote e a cor escolhida do tablet. E sobre ela, eu falo mais parte da frente as comparações com smartphones da própria Samsung continuam. Ele vem com exatamente os mesmos três botões dos Galaxy mais recentes. Dois sensíveis ao toque e um, no meio, que funciona como leitor de impressões digitais e que é físico. O que muda, e me incomoda um pouco, é que a porta USB-C não é alinhada com o meio do aparelho, mas sim mais para o o cabo do carregador e ver que as coisas não estão alinhadas, dá um frio na espinha do meu não há onde guardar a S Pen pro lado de dentro do corpo do aparelho, como fazem os Galaxy Note. Você vai precisar guardar em um local onde não vai perder. Continuando…O desempenho, com tanto hardware, é exemplar. Rodei uma série de aplicativos ao mesmo tempo, de opções mais leves até outras mais pesadas e nada. Nenhum engasgo ou travamento. A compatibilidade com a API Vulkan ajuda bastante e vai empolgar quem quer o tablet para problema aparece quando você tenta tirar proveito de toda a tela grande que está aqui. A Samsung até trouxe versões do Word, Excel e PowerPoint que ficam bem semelhantes ao que temos nos computadores, mas quando você vai para o Play Store e baixa, por exemplo, o Docs do Google, não vê mais este aproveitamento. Outros apps também sofrem com isso, como o Facebook. Sim, ele exibe mais conteúdo quando está na horizontal, mas...olhem só a quantidade de conteúdo extra que aparece quando eu abro o Facebook no Chrome! É muito mais coisa, no mesmo tamanho de ponto poderia ser questionado pela forma de interação com dedos, mas o Tab S3 vem com a S Pen na caixa, sem custos extras. Ela funciona como um ponteiro de mouse muito preciso e permite botões menores para isso. O Instagram, por exemplo, sequer permite utilizar o app na orientação de tela que estava até agora. Mesmo com a orientação travada, o app força ele a rodar de depois do Android que juntou tablets e smartphones num só sistema operacional, a imensa maioria dos apps ainda é feita focando no uso de um smartphone. Não no de um tablet e é nisso que o iPad toma a dianteira e continua lá por anos. Por lá o número de apps que tira proveito da tela grande é muito, mas muito para as soluções da Samsung, a S Pen continua como a melhor caneta que você pode utilizar em telas de toque - melhor até do que a Apple Pencil, que é um….lápis? A da Samsung tem exatamente as mesmas funções da linha Note. Isso significa que você pode fazer anotações com a tela desligada e apertar o botão dela para abrir um menu com extras, como traduzir uma palavra para outro idioma, criar uma nota e até fazer uma captura de tela e desenhar ou escrever por ponta da S Pen tem 0,7 milímetros de espessura e faz fricção o suficiente com o vidro para não dar a impressão de que você não está num papel. Desenhar é muito confortável, pecando apenas em um ponto bastante chato não há modo que cancela o toque da mão na tela, quando você desenha ou escreve. Parece bobeira, mas não poder ficar com a mão apoiada na tela, tira parte do conforto de utilizar a outro lado, a stylus é maior do que nos Galaxy Note e encaixa quase que em um tamanho tradicional de caneta. De fato, é a melhor caneta que existe para telas. E, diferente da Apple Pencil, não precisa recarregar a pensei em, sinceramente, pular este ponto. Você não deve utilizar um aparelho deste tamanho para tirar fotos das férias, ou uma selfie para redes sociais. Mas...ok, vamos 13 megapixels na parte traseira, com abertura de f/ e que pode até filmar em 4K com 30 quadros por segundo. O resultado fica em fotos que exibem cores de forma bem balanceada, mas que sofre com o HDR - que está escondido dentro dos modos de fotografia. Ele não consegue trabalhar tão bem por aqui, como faz no S7. Este seria um ponto negativo, mas, convenhamos, a única utilidade de fato de uma câmera traseira em tablet é de escanear documentos ou fotografar bem raramente, certo? O smartphone é muito mais portátil e está sempre no seu bolso, algo que o tablet não fotos noturnas recebem ajuda da abertura grande, mas o foco é teimoso e nem sempre fixa no ponto em que você toca na tela. O nível de granulado foi baixo nas fotos que eu tirei. Bem bacana para um... a câmera frontal é de 5 megapixels e lida bem com chamadas de vídeo e algumas selfies descompromissadas. Nada além e acessóriosPor dentro são de bateria, que...sinceramente, poderia ser maior. E eu falo isso quando comparo com o iPad Pro de mesmo tamanho de tela, que tem mais de extras, com espessura muito semelhante e quase que mesmo peso. Dava pra dar um fôlego extra por assim, com menos bateria do que seu principal concorrente, o Tab S3 não faz feio não. No teste de reprodução de vídeo via Wi-Fi, com brilho no máximo, o tablet da Samsung registrou descarga média de 15% por hora. Utilizando no cotidiano, com vídeos, produzindo textos e navegando na web, consegui perto das 10 horas com a bateria extra não faz muita falta, mas...ter 20% a mais de bateria, poderia dar uma hora extra de uso. Vale a pena, principalmente para um aparelho que não precisa ser tão fino e a pena?O Galaxy Tab S3 entrega um dos melhores desempenhos em tablets com Android, tem, de longe, a melhor caneta para telas de toque que vai deixar até mesmo artistas animados. A lista de apps que tira bom proveito de telas grandes é pequenina e, quando você olha para a produtividade que um Chromebook entrega, fica complicado pensar no Tab S3 para isso. Pra você é consumidor de mídia e gosta de ter isso em uma tela enorme, este é seu próximo tablet. Se quer utilizar para trabalho, minha experiência própria é de apontar um Chromebook. O Chromebook Plus, da própria Samsung, tem teclado físico confortável, versão completa do Chrome, roda quase que todos os apps de Android e é mais utilizo o Chromebook para muita coisa e ele é a melhor ponte entre um tablet Android e um computador. Para produtividade, ele é o campeão, só que para assistir séries do Netflix e jogar, o Tab S3 vence. Ah, a S Pen dele é bem melhor do que a que vem no a Samsung não nos enviou o teclado que vai conectado nestes pontos que ficam na base do Tab. Eu já utilizei ele e a produtividade melhora, mas ainda assim não ganha do claro, o Tab S3 custa R$ 3 mil no site oficial da Samsung e já vem com a S Pen na caixa, sem custar nada além por isso. Sucessor do modelo apresentado em 2015, ele se apresenta como um produto versátil para consumo de conteúdo, trabalho criativo, entretenimento e produtividade. Para atender a todo esse público, o tablet chega com hardware poderoso, tela Super AMOLED de 9,7 polegadas com suporte a HDR, caneta de alta precisão na caixa do produto, quatro alto-falantes tunados pela AKG e suporte a acessórios da própria Samsung, inclusive um teclado físico. Será que o Galaxy Tab S3 é suficiente para levantar o decadente mercado de tablets? Eu conto tudo nos próximos minutos. Em vídeo Design e som Pensa no Galaxy S7. Agora estica ele. Esse é basicamente o Galaxy Tab S3 um tablet com bordas de alumínio, traseira de vidro e o trio de botões físicos da Samsung, sendo que o do meio é um leitor de impressões digitais. O Galaxy Tab S3 é um tablet fino e suficientemente leve para segurá-lo por um bom tempo sem cansar os braços, com 6 mm de espessura e 434 gramas. Nas laterais, você encontra uma conexão USB-C, entrada de fone de ouvido de 3,5 mm, quatro alto-falantes, conector magnético para o teclado e bandeja para chip de operadora e microSD. São dois speakers em cima e dois embaixo, então, mesmo segurando o tablet no modo paisagem, pelo menos duas saídas ficarão totalmente desobstruídas. O volume é alto, embora os agudos distorçam um pouco quando o nível está no máximo. Tela Eu nunca escondi minha preferência pela proporção 43 ou mesmo 32 nos tablets. Você pode argumentar que os filmes são 169 e acabam ficando com barras pretas e tem razão, mas as telas mais quadradas são mais vantajosas para qualquer outro tipo de conteúdo, como revistas, desenhos e principalmente navegação, pelo simples fato de que a área útil é maior e você não fica com um salsichão no modo retrato. Com isso em mente, é claro que a tela é um dos maiores pontos positivos do Galaxy Tab S3. O painel Super AMOLED de 9,7 polegadas 2048×1536 pixels tem excelente definição, pretos impecáveis, brilho forte para qualquer situação e uma saturação que agrada. Por padrão, o branco é demasiadamente frio para o meu gosto, mas é possível ajustar o balanço nas configurações do sistema. Para assistir a filmes e séries, o Galaxy Tab S3 também faz bonito. O fato do Super AMOLED apresentar um contraste normalmente maior que um IPS LCD equivalente torna a experiência muito agradável nos vídeos — eu tenho vontade de esticar a tela para 50 polegadas. E, como vem acontecendo em smartphones caros, ele suporta conteúdo em HDR; o maior problema é encontrar algum. Software O Android do Galaxy Tab S3 roda uma interface parecida com a dos smartphones da Samsung com Nougat. Ela apresenta ícones mais contidos e telas mais claras, sem o verde controverso da marca. Achei curiosa a ausência de uma tela do Flipboard à esquerda da tela inicial, que vem nos celulares da Samsung; é um aplicativo de notícias com uma interface mais apresentável em tablets do que smartphones. É verdade que o Android sempre foi muito criticado nos tablets por não ter aplicativos realmente adaptados para telas grandes. Mas minha experiência foi melhor que a esperada Facebook, Instapaper, Newton, Slack, Todoist, Evernote e outros aplicativos que utilizo bastante já entregam uma interface dentro do que eu espero para um tablet, aproveitando bem o espaço do display. Embora aplicativos como Twitter e Spotify ainda tenham apenas interfaces de smartphone esticadas, não há mais um abismo entre Android e iOS como há dois ou três anos. Além disso, funcionalidades bem desenvolvidas pela Samsung, especialmente o multitarefa, que permite executar dois aplicativos lado, só reforçam a experiência. Mas a característica que a Samsung gosta de destacar é a caneta S Pen que, diferentemente do principal concorrente, vem inclusa na caixa e não precisa ser recarregada. É um bom acessório porque combina a precisão da caneta dos Galaxy Note, trazendo ponta fina de 0,7 mm e latência quase imperceptível, com o formato de uma caneta tradicional, mais espessa e agradável de segurar. Para quem desenha, o aplicativo Samsung Notes tem uma variedade de pincéis com tintas que se misturam como no papel e suportam os níveis de pressão. Para quem só é capaz de desenhar uma casa, árvore e pessoa, como eu, a caneta entrega ótima experiência de escrita, e o software faz um ótimo trabalho em desconsiderar a interferência da minha mão canhota enquanto escrevo. Câmera A avaliação de qualidade de câmera depende de qual é o produto. Se fosse um smartphone, eu diria o Galaxy Tab S3 entrega fotos de 13 megapixels com boa saturação e leve presença de ruídos mesmo em cenários com bastante iluminação; ele apresenta suave perda de definição nas bordas, mas não chega a prejudicar claramente o quadro. Em ambientes internos com luz artificial, o sensor tem mais dificuldade em focar e o alcance dinâmico limitado se revela, estourando áreas iluminadas e elevando os ruídos em regiões de sombra. Como é um tablet de quase 10 polegadas, meu atestado é o seguinte códigos de barras são focados rapidamente e têm boa nitidez. Outro detalhe é que, embora ele tenha uma entrada para microSD, eu senti falta de uma versão com mais capacidade de armazenamento. 32 GB é pouco se a concorrência já começa com o dobro e vai até 512 GB. É o que digo nos smartphones a memória interna sempre vai ser muito mais rápida que um cartão, e é chato ser obrigado a gerenciar unidades de armazenamento, especialmente em um produto tão caro. A bateria, por sua vez, cumpre com o que promete. A capacidade de mAh é suficiente para manter o tablet ligado por cerca de 7 horas de navegação interrupta no Wi-Fi; eu consumi metade da bateria em três horas e meia. Nos testes de vídeo, ele aguentou exatamente 10h32min de streaming de vídeo da Netflix com brilho em 60%, nada muito abaixo da estimativa de 12 horas divulgada pela Samsung. Conclusão O Galaxy Tab S3 é um tablet bom. Ponto. Ele tem ótimo desempenho para qualquer tarefa, uma bateria que dá conta do recado, um software bem desenvolvido e, principalmente, uma tela sensacional. Essa é a conclusão do review do produto em si. Mas, se me permitem, preciso tecer alguns comentários sobre o mercado brasileiro de tablets. Não está havendo um meio termo nos produtos. Existem os baratos, que são ruins e têm comprometimentos demais em favor do preço. E existem os bons, que são absurdamente caros. Eu não encontro um custo-benefício realmente interessante no país desde o lançamento LG G Pad em 2014. E o tablet da Samsung se enquadra na segunda categoria por R$ ele é tão bom quanto caro. Não que seu principal concorrente também não seja considerando a caneta, um acessório não suportado pelo iPad mais básico, você gastaria pelo menos cinco mil reais na plataforma da Apple, levando em consideração um iPad Pro de 10,5 polegadas de 64 GB sem 4G e com a Apple Pencil de R$ 799. O ponto é por esse preço, o Galaxy Tab S3 se torna um produto de alcance extremamente limitado. Ele pode ser útil para artistas que não querem gastar o dobro na concorrência e para pessoas que 1 fazem questão de consumir conteúdo em uma tela grande de alta qualidade; 2 não se importam em carregar mais um dispositivo para todo lugar e; 3 estão com dinheiro sobrando.
